Sarah O'Byrne selects five apps it might pay students to check out.
For Creativity
VSCO
VSCO is similar to Instagram, in that it allows you to share edited pictures via a personal profile. Created by the Visual Supply Company, and styled as being “by creators, for creators”, VSCO isn’t concerned with likes, comments or followers: it’s all about the pic.
For Fashion
Depop
If you’re sick of supporting fast-fashion, Depop might soothe your conscience. This app enables you to buy and sell second-hand clothes, and to follow your favourite accounts. Warning: browsing during lectures is a strong possibility.
For Savings
UniDAYS

Available only to university students, UNiDAYS offers student discounts on fashion, beauty, food and everything a poor, starving student craves. You won’t get rich quick, but you might feel less poor!
For Concentration
Forest: Stay Focused
With Forest, you set yourself a target time-span for not touching your phone (e.g. 30 minutes). If you manage to keep your hands off, Forest rewards you with a “fully grown tree.” It’s ridiculous, but nothing can explain the guilt some people feel when they cave in and “kill a tree.”
For your Mental Health
What’s Up
What’s Up gathers elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy into a Mental Heralth app. Easy to use, it offers breathing exercises, games to calm you down, forums, and a private diary section. Don’t get angry – it works for some!

For Practicality
Your University’s App

If your college has one, it’s definitely worth downloading. Some will have maps of your campus, society updates and information on your chosen course. Show some school pride!
