TV SHOW OF THE DAY: Ireland v Denmark, World Cup 2018 Qualifier (RTÉ 2, 7PM)
Returning home from Copenhagen after last Saturday's scoreless draw against Denmark, the pressure is on the Boys in Green to deliver in the second leg of their World Cup qualifier tonight at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.
With the only real result to come from the first leg being praise directed towards the Irish fans by Denmark's police force, Ireland will need to better themselves if they are to go to Russia for the 2018 World Cup this summer. Having yet to make it to the finals since the 2002 games in Japan and South Korea, Martin O'Neill and his boys have set their targets on recapturing their 2-0 home victory against Bosnia in 2015, which took them to Euro 2016.
However, while two would be nice, one is the current objective with O'Neill admitting that they are currently a bit behind on making goals a recurring event, saying, "It would be lovely to have a prolific goalscorer in the side. If you don't have that, then you have to try to find other ways." Fortunately, what Ireland has to their advantage is a tight defence line, which infiltrating, Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney compared to opening "a can of baked beans with your bare hands."
Making his return tonight is Hull City midfielder David Meyler, who missed Saturday's game through suspension.
Kick off is at 7:45 tonight on RTÉ 2.
