Twitter was a pretty joyful place after Italy beat England in the Euros final last night
Italy beat England in last night's Euro 2020 final that ended in penalty kicks. It was an incredibly exciting match that ended 1-1 in regulation, with the Italians winning 3-2 on penalty kicks.
Twitter, and Irish Twitter in particular had spent most of last week declaring ourselves for Italy.

So the reactions to Italy's win were predictable, but no less entertaining.

What a tournament. It’s been the best distraction. The football has been fantastic and the drama has been unmatched.

Most of the schadenfreude was aimed at the English fans however, rather than the players. There was a lot of love for Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, who were no match for Italy's 22-year-old keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma:
Marcus Rashford has done more for England then winning a penalty could ever do. Bukayo Saka has bought joy and inspiration to so many at fucking NINTEEN. These kids need to hold their heads so high.

The real MVP of the night was the tiny car...

Things took a somber turn though, with as many were mindful of the racial abuse that was sure to follow three black English player missing during penalty shootouts, and the fact that domestic abuse incidents in the UK rise significantly after English football matches, win or lose:

As much as I'm absolutely buzzing that England have lost, let's bare in mind that the young lads like Rashford, Sancho, Saka are all going to receive a lot of unwarranted blame and abuse from fans and the press. They deserve better

New Essay: When Football Goes Home
I've loved football since I was 9. But I know it's an outlet patriarchy offers to cis men as an excuse to treat us like shit. Remember that, ahead of this weekend’s epic lineup of men's finals.#CopaAmerica #EURO2020 https://t.co/gf3Z4iQ4VG

Overall however the mood was pretty joyful, and ultimately, what hope did England have after this?
