The tracklist for new album Everybody Needs A Hero has also been revealed.
Orla Gartland shares a new single from her second studio album Everybody Needs A Hero. The single, 'Late To The Party', features Declan McKenna, and is available to buy and stream now. The track listing for the new album has also been revealed, and is due to be released Friday 4th October via New Friends. The Dublin-born, London based artist's debut album Woman On The Internet charted in the top 10 of the UK Official Charts, at #3 in the Irish Album Charts and was nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2021.
Orla describes her new single: “‘'Late To The Party' is a big old bratty song about resenting the baggage that you inherit when you love someone and yearning for a time when we were all a blank slate
“I wanted a song on the record that shifted in pace a lot, something fun and loud, something indulgent," Orla says of the new track. "I first wrote ‘Late To The Party’ over a couple of solo sittings in my studio, mumbling out the lyrics while playing drums.
“A few months later I sent the song to Declan - for me he is one of the absolute greats, a properly timeless artist & writer. We worked on the song remotely at first, sending stems back & forth and then jumped in the studio for a day to dismantle the song & put it all back together. Dec’s parts & energy added so much to the track for me and after months of revisiting it ‘Late To The Party’ was suddenly complete.”

This week, Orla announced an extra special intimate album preview show on 3 September, at London’s Hoxton Hall. During the show, Orla will perform songs from Everybody Needs A Hero, a month ahead of its release. In October, Orla will travel across the UK & Ireland for a run of acoustic album launches, including visits to 3 Golden Discs stores here. In November, she will head across the Atlantic for her first full North American tour here - tickets for which sold out rapidly. Tickets for Orla’s Hoxton Hall show go on sale at 10am BST on Thursday 29 August 2024.
Everybody Needs A Hero delves into Orla’s metamorphosis through the currents of a long term relationship, and her navigation of taking up space in a postfeminist world. She explores the notion of a ‘hero’: traditionally, someone to idolise, to rescue us from ourselves.
Orla brought the album to life between her London studio and the tranquil oasis of Middle Farm Studios in Devon. Constantly challenging herself as a writer and producer, Gartland took the lead during the writing and recording processes, right through to the mixing and mastering. In co-producing the album, she worked alongside longtime collaborators Tom Stafford and Peter Miles, drawing on inspiration from each producers’ digital and analog approaches.
