Swedish producer and remixer Hakan Lidbo – he numbers Fatboy Slim among his clients – has always enjoyed teasing the outer limits of dance floor music, but this new album on Mitek sees him disappear off the house and techno map. With Maurizio’s scuffled dub aesthetic and the German click house sound providing the only, admittedly vague reference points, the six numbered tracks here flow like mercury.

At times stripped down and linear, and at other points abstract, textured and metallic, Lidbo’s hissing, wispy arrangements rarely reach anything that resembles a dance floor tempo. At the same time, there’s something truly fascinating about the glitchy metal music here, enjoyed at best in the comfortable surroundings of one’s own home.
