We invited a 100-strong chorus of artists, writers, musicians, broadcasters, sports stars and more to contribute to Now We’re Talking, a mental health campaign, run in partnership with Lyons Tea and Pieta House. Judith Owen tells us how music helped her through difficult times.
I’ve always felt very fortunate to have had music to pull me from the edge, all my life. We all need a way to express ourselves, voice our inner pain, expose our secrets. It’s why so many performers chose this path of self-medication. After years in the dark and a long road to recovery, I’m finally on the other side. And I’m here to say there’s life after – and with – depression. I’ve lost so many years, but I’m grateful to have the rest of my life. I’ll always yearn for the applause, but these days I feel equally alive seeing a beautiful sunset, or being greeted by my dog when I come home…
100 Voices was published in the Hot Press Mental Health Special in conjunction with Lyons Tea and Pieta House as part of the Now We're Talking Campaign. For more please visit hotpress.com/now-were-talking/
