The 1975 release album opener in collaboration with climate activist Greta Thunberg

The 1975's music style has changed a lot over the years but one thing always remained: their theme song 'The 1975' that opens every single album they have made so far. Appearing in different reimagined forms on all three of their previous records, the track will also kickstart their new album Notes On A Conditional Form, set to release on February 21, 2020.

For the newest version of the song, The 1975 team up with Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who started a whole movement with her 'school strikes for climate'. While the theme song's instrumental is played in the background, the 16 year old delivers a powerful speech on climate change and on how a social revolution is needed to save the earth.

"Solving the climate crisis is the greatest and most complex challenge that homo sapiens have ever faced. The main solution, however, is so simple that even a small child can understand it. We have to stop our emissions of greenhouse gases", Thunberg explains, calling upon the listener to fight for a change: "We can no longer save the world by playing by the rules because the rules have to be changed. Everything needs to change. And it has to start today. So, everyone out there, it is now time for civil disobedience. It is time to rebel."

The new album Notes On A Conditional Form follows the critically acclaimed A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, released not long ago in November 2018. However, the two albums are not necessarily connected, as frontman Matt Healy explained in an interview with NME: "It's a completely different record. Six months now is the same as what three years was before. Think about the amount of shit that happens in six months' time. It will be a different thing and a different time."

The band also shared a picture on Instagram that reads "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!", possibly another track from the upcoming album.

After their fantastic 3Arena show in January, The 1975 are returning to Ireland in August to headline this year's Electric Picnic.
