Loved within the Irish scene, Pat Farrell played across the country for over fifty years, often cited as the ‘blues’ guitarists’ favourite blues player.’
He played twin guitars in several bands with Jimmy Faulkner, Red Peters and The Floating Dublin Blues Band.
Brush invited Farrell to join Skid Row following Gary Moore’s departure. He also played with Rob Strong and The Rockets.
In 1981, Farrell formed The Business Blues Band with Don Baker, Errol Walsh, Tommy Moore and Fran Breen. Line-ups changed but The Business kept playing the up until a few months before Pat’s death in January 2023 following his struggle with prostate cancer.
The Business played shows in London and toured Russia when they weren’t playing in Slattery’s of Capel Street, The Meeting Place on Dorset Street or JJ Smyth’s on Aungier Street. During those years a plethora of Irish musicians jammed with the band, many of whom will be appearing at the special evening in the Olympia next June.
In the late 2000s Farrell accompanied Mik Pyro’s Republic of Loose at The Academy – prompting Pyro to invite the guitarist to be part of his newly formed Blues Cartel – whose Whelan’s Sunday Late Night sessions have gained legendary status.
