In addition to the new video, Lucy Dacus announces a vinyl reissue for her second album Historian, celebrating its fifth anniversary
American singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus first dropped the 10-track album Historian via Matador back in 2018. It included the song 'Night Shift,' which has just seen a new music video drop for. The video was directed by Jane Schoenbrun.
Dacus has not only dropped a new song, however, but has announced that in honour of Historian's fifth anniversary, a limited edition reissue of the album will be released in Red Vinyl. It will also be restored with Lucy Dacus's "never-before-seen" original artwork.
In the new video, Lucy reflects on the difficulties of moving on a literal five years after the song originally came out. Around her, people are dressed up as characters from the Wizard of Oz for a "5th annual fan convention" and Tornado party celebrating the story.
It adds a level of surrealism as Lucy gathers the determination to step back out into the world and find love again, joining the crowd dressed as a witch and ultimately finding a partner in a girl dressed as Dorothy, played by Scream actress Jasmin Savoy.

The indie-rock artist first broke out onto the music scene in 2016 with her debut album No Burden, produced in Nashville. More recently, she dropped the singles 'Home Again' and 'It's Too Late' in 2022.
First released in 2017, in an interview with Hot Press back in 2021 about her third album, Home Video , she discussed the break-up that influenced the 'Night Shift's' creation.
"I have this little calendar," the singer started. "I have the exact same one every year, and I used to mark off 'one year since the break-up,' 'two years since the break-up'... And this year, it was actually five. "
"It felt like a big milestone, mostly because of writing that lyric so long ago. And it does feel like that song doesn't belong to me anymore - it feels like anybody else's as much as it is mine."

It's no wonder it resonates so deeply with so many. While the song mostly focuses on recovering from Dacus's break-up up from a five-year relationship, the song looks forward into the next five years mournfully but hopefully.
In five years I hope the songs feel like covers / Dedicated to new lovers
