50 Shades of Grey leads the pack with 6 nods for this year's Golden Rasberry Awards, more commonly known as the Razzies.
The Razzie awards is the annual celebration and condemnation of the worst films, actors and actresses in 2015. With the awards season in full swing, the nominations for the Razzie’s were revealed last night, where the smutfest led the way.
The film was never going to be a commercial failure, considering the humongous following the erotic novel had, but it will come as no surprise to many that the film may lack in terms of any viable narrative plot or character development. With that in mind, it pretty much boiled down to women drooling over the personification of Mr. Christian Grey via Mr. Jamie Dornan and... that’s about it.
Joining 50 Shades of Grey for the ‘Worst Picture’ are Channing Tatum’s Jupiter Ascending and Adam Sandler’s Pixels.
‘Worst Actor’ includes Kevin James for his recurring performance as a mall cop in Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and Johnny Depp gets a shout out for his film flop Mortdecai. Those who are in the lead to win ‘Worst Actress’ are Dakota Johnson for 50 Shades of Grey and Mila Kunis for Jupiter Ascending.
The Razzie Awards also kindly offers winners of the past a redemption award to restore their glory - in the running are Sylvester Stallone (who previously won ‘All-Time Razzie Champ’) and Will Smith (who had won ‘Worst Picture’ for 2013’s After Earth). The public have the power to redeem them by voting on the Rotten Tomatoes website. Whether any of these Hollywood stars will turn up to be named and shamed remains to be seen but it’s all in the name of good fun!
The 36th Annual Golden Rasberry Awards Ceremony takes place this coming 27th of February, a day before the prestigious Academy Awards takes place.
