If you're a superhero fan, you’ve no doubt heard of or seen Luke Cage, the series about the titular indestructible black superhero (played by Mike Colter). Yet, you may have missed the fact that Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu helmed the first episode of the second season.

Speaking to Ed Power, she describes the difficulty of directing action sequences while being so famous.

“We had to choreograph the fight scenes and study them very closely. And of course then we had a paparazzi following us. We had to tell him to get out of the show.”

While Black Panther was widely praised as being the first black superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Luke Cage and Coker were there first. The showrunner teases to Ed how the new season’s Caribbean villain, Bushmaster (the great Mustafa Shakir), influences the series' representation of black culture.

“The Jamaican culture is the culture of resistance and pride. What was interesting about Bushmaster is that now you have these two warring factors – the Jamaican perspective and the African-American one. There’s a post slavery tension there.”

Having a Caribbean character means the series could add reggae and dub to its soundtrack already featuring Ghostface Killah, Faith Evans and Esperanza Spalding.
