This edition marks 3 years writing about Irish electronic music for Hot Press, back then we looked at a jam-packed Paddy’s weekend line up, and this time round we do the exact same thing. Over the coming weekend we'll see Derrick May, tINI, Flashmob and Huxley in action.
On Paddy’s Eve, March 16, Pygmalion celebrate their 8th birthday with Derrick May & tIINI. May is credited as being one of the godfathers of Techno with Juan Atkins & Kevin Saunderson. Through his own label Transmat, he released most of his most influential tracks like “Nude Photo”, “Strings of Life”, “Kaos” and “It is what it is” and produced under the moniker Rhythim is Rhythim. Transmat also provided a platform for Stacey Pullen, Juan Atkins, Joey Baltram, K-Alexi, Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin. tINI broke through as a tour DJ for Marco Carola, her tINI & the Gang free parties in Ibiza cemented her reputation as one of the worlds leading underground DJs and promoters. tINI has released with Loco Dice’s Desolat, releasing her first album in 2011.
Ejeca plays District 8, he shot to popularity through Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 Show ‘Essential Tune of the Week’. Ejeca runs his own label Exploris and releasee on BPitch Control, Poker Flat and Last Night on Earth. Up in Opium Rooms Leftfield returns for a DJ set. Leftfield’s debut album ‘Leftism’ was nominated for Mercury prize and voted in the top ten greatest albums of all time by readers of Q magazine. The follow up album included Roots Manuva, MC Cheshire Cat and Africa Bambaataa and reached UK top ten in 1999.
Outside of Dublin OBE host Huxley at Habitat inLimerick. Huxley has released on Hypercolour, Tsuba and 20: 20 Vision, his debut album was released on Aus Music and has worked with Sam Russo and Ethyl. ƝØϊƦ have Mark Knight at Carbon Nightclub in Galway. Knight has worked with Basement Jaxx and Chris Malinchak, Faithless and Underworld. He runs one of the UK’s biggest independent record labels Toolroom Records. His radio show Toolroom Radio reaches over 13.5 million people in 60 countries every week.
RePublik host Bicep & Hammer at Project Nightclub in Waterford. Bastardo Electrico bring Irish duo Tinfoil Live to Cyprus Avenue in Cork. Tinfoil is the collaborative project of Sunil Sharpe and DeFeKT. They released their third EP in 2016 and performed live with London Modular at Bloc.
On Paddy’s Day, March 17 Abstract and Bedlam host Foals DJ set at Opium Rooms. Foals are signed to Warner Bros and launched new club night Vice Versa at Last Days of Decadence in East London. Tale of Us will feature at an all day party at District 8. Tale of Us released their 2011 debut album on Detroit-based label Visionquest and followed up with releases for Richie Hawtin’s M-nus and Belgian label R&S. They founded their own label Life & Death in 2011 which includes talents such as Mind Against, Recondite, Steve Rachmad and Vaal.

Soundstream play Pygmalion that night. They describe themselves as true-school Berlin artists and have upcoming Shows at Berghain (Berlin), Canal Mills (Leeds), Noorderlicht (Amsterdam).
Outside Dublin Faint host Bicep at HMV Soundgarden, Flashmob play Habitat in Limerick. Higher Vision Festival takes place at Bellurgan Park in Louth with Ejeca, Dimitri From Paris, Julio Bashmore, Dense & Pika, FJAAK, Josh Butler, Denis Sulta, I Hate Models, Altern-8.
Melodic host Patrice Bäumel at Bar Tengu on March 18. DiVISION host Rich NxT at Pygmalion. Joey Negro performs at the Electric Garden & Theatre in Galway. Flashmob Records run a label night at Cyprus Avenue in Cork. Pygmalion host Martyn on March 19 in Dublin.
