Tim Shearwood shot the new video for 'Shimmer Boy' in Neukölln, Berlin.
Æ Mak, aka Aoife McCann, has announced her new mixtape Berlin will drop on April 21st with glittering new track 'Shimmer Boy'.
The Dundalk native will also embark on a UK and Ireland tour in celebration of the project. The jaunt includes gigs at London's Shacklewell Arms, Whelan's in Dublin, Galway's Roisin Dubh, The Belfast Barge in Belfast, and Connolly's of Leap in Cork.
The alt-pop sensation has supported Tune Yards, Django Django and Warpaint, plus performed at some of the UK and Ireland’s biggest festivals.
The Louth artist moved to Berlin with her best mate on broken hearts and dreams of a new home. As a result, the Berlin tape is a collection of songs inspired by winter; harmonica, sexting, dancing, chest flames, clubs, self-destruction, rebirth and baked cheesecakes.
Her previous EP, How to: Make a Kitsch Pop Song to Show the World was released in 2020 and includes her hit song 'i dance in the kitchen' featuring Seba Safe. Æ MAK's energy inspiring primitive vocal rhythms, off the cuff melodic hooks, and lyrical content forms her unique alt-electronic sound.
Additional production and mixes by some of her favourite producers - ATRIP, Kojaque and David Noonan (Just Mustard). The gorgeous, DIY-inspired video for 'Shimmer Boy' was shot and edited by Tim Shearwood in Neukölln, Berlin.

With a pulsing beat, spine-tingling electronic flourishes and her typically hypnotic vocals, it's a lust-driven love song at its core: "I want your body next to mine / I want your laugh in my throat / I want your eyes / In mine / I want you all the time."
’Shimmer Boy’ has that nostalgic indie sound with lyrics made out of a text message chain. McCann says of the single, “I headed over to Berlin for a couple of months late 2021 and this was the first song I made there. I didn't have a mic that week so I just recorded the vocals and harmonica with the laptop mic and leaned into that nostalgic indie sound. The lyrics are made up of a stream of texts between me and Shimmer Boy himself. The start of a bit of magic. We both live in Berlin now.”
She adds about the video, "The video is really a snapshot of my new life in Berlin, pals and new love and chaos and feeling lost/overwhelmed.”
