Oh good, another Irish singer/songwriter. Or so it might seem. Despite the rather uninspiring moniker, Greg Geoghegan’s eighth self-released album is an understated gem.
Oh good, another Irish singer/songwriter. Or so it might seem. Despite the rather uninspiring moniker, Greg Geoghegan’s eighth self-released album is an understated gem. Like other one man operations before him, Geoghegan has something of the maverick about him.
Again has a distinctly home produced feel about it that sometimes leaves it sounding a little amateurish but more often than not enhances the vision of the singer and main collaborator Martin Clancy. The sounds are mainly electronic, interspersed with vocals, samples and live instruments and the tempo ranges from chilled out ambient to Leftfield inspired techno, all with a keen songwriting eye at the centre.
Greg’s own vocals let the side down a little and he’s at his best when he lets others voice his ideas, as with the raga flavoured ‘Walking Down My Road’. And ideas is something that Again is certainly brimming with, perhaps a bit too much as the album gets slightly unwieldy at over 70 minutes. For more info on this intriguing artist go to www.greg.ie.
