Glass Animals became a household name following their Covid summer smash ‘Heat Waves’, the biggest international hit from a British band in almost 30 years. I Love You So F**cking Much follows in the same vein, with the Oxford-ians leaning even more into radio-friendly territory.

The record is tied together by an overarching theme of love – or, at times, the lack thereof. Sugary opener ‘Show Pony’ and the darker ‘I Can’t Make You Fall In Love Again’ candidly explore fractured familial relationships and the resulting heartache. There are also consistent references to intergalactic terminology throughout – notably on the deft lead single ‘Creatures In Heaven’ – which give the record somewhat of a spacey atmosphere.

I don’t understand the need to use autotune so widely – if past albums are anything to go by, singer Mike Bayley doesn’t need it – unless it is to evoke a robotic AI-like flavour.

Elsewhere, ‘whathehellishappening’ calls fellow streaming sensations Tame Impala to mind, while the tropical house synths on ‘A Tear In Space (Airlock)’ remind me of chart viral sensation, Tones and I’s ‘Dance Monkey’.

Is this Glass Animals at their best? It may prove to be a grower, but either way, I Love You So F**cking Much has ‘hits’ written all over it.
