From the get-go, Oddsocks set the bar pretty high, but with new album The Sound Of The City they raise it even higher. Indeed, they absolutely nail the Rhythm & Groove genre they seem to have reinvented. What might sound like ordinary pop songs become well thought-out compositions, with a mix of pure soul and funk thrown in. First single ‘What You Trying’ and ‘Could Have Been Good To You’ are two very catchy songs, deserving of the airplay they will surely get, but when you immerse yourself further into the album, you’ll discover more hidden treasures.

‘The Birth Of The Cool’ takes you smoothly through the Oddsocks world, with the drum and bass setting the groove, the vocalists taking turns singing lead, and the guitar funking things up. The laidback, jazzy feel of ‘Gotta Get That Feeling’ is intensified by the saxophone that blows throughout like a gentle breeze, with the synthesizers taking the song to new heights.

‘Saying Things’ and ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It’ jump out, because they sound unlike any of the other songs on the album – in a very good way. The Sound Of The City makes musical references to some of the greatest artists in the soul and funk world, but Oddsocks take their place amongst them with surprising ease.
