Impressively eclectic effort from Armagh artist.
Self-exploration is the name of the game on Jealous of The Birds' fine sophomore outing, Peninsula. Whether JOTB –aka Armagh singer Naomi Hamilton – is discussing creative burnout in ‘Something Holy’, or love in ‘Epistle’, these songs mine the depths of the human condition, often brilliantly.
‘Hadron Collider’ sees a more bombastic sound emerge, courtesy of quirky, electro rhythms. Equally impressive are the weird and wonderful ‘House Above The Sea’ and ‘Tiger in a Tropical Storm’, with the latter boasting the memorable refrain, “don’t you think you could be alone?”
Overall, shifting impressively between singer-songwriter terrain and vibrant pop-rock, Peninsula is a poignant offering that is both reflective of the times, and deliciously hopeful for the future.
