Not to be confused with the similarly named Dutch footballer (thanks Google!), this indie, punk and shoegaze infused five-piece boasts a fine pedigree. There’s refugees aboard from various Cork outfits, including The Shanks, LMNO Pelican, Rulers of the Planet and Semi.
Jonny Rep’s second album, it transpires, is an intoxicating collection of melody-laden riffola that pays loving tribute to the days when the likes of the Stone Roses and Ash ruled the airwaves.
They set their stall out strongly with the hypnotic, swaggering rocker ‘Call Me Soon’; and the satisfyingly meaty ‘Waiting Room’ is a particular treat, thanks to its punchy guitars, an incendiary, fret-bothering guitar solo and a passionate vocal. The delicious slice of shoegaze that is ‘Enemy’ is another gem, while pensive alt.ballad ‘Jet Trails’ showcases a moodier but most welcome side of the band. Cork is back!
