Lots to love about The View frontman's new LP.
Recorded in his new Spanish home studio, Kyle Falconer’s latest features acoustic takes on tunes from his extensive catalogue. All named after women, each track dissects themes of love, growth, regret and identity.
On an enjoyable, if unspectacular, trip down memory lane, the unplugged approach nicely showcases Falconer’s storytelling flair. Standouts include a skiffle and rockabilly-infused rendition of ‘Rebecca’ from difficult second album Which Bitch?, and stringswept, cinematic newbie ‘Angelina’. Best of all is the Burt Bacharach-steeped version of fan favourite ‘Claudia’, from The View’s 2007 number one album, Hats Off To The Buskers.
An irresistible tune full of charm and Falconer’s trademark cheek, it’s a welcome reminder of his gift for crowd-pleasing indie anthems.
