We’re not even all the way through 2013 yet and already 2014 is looking like a bumper year thanks to indie collective Popical Island
November already?! WTF? 2013 is like so last year… except it’s not really, er, yet. But 2014 is where it’s at, and to prove it, the wonderful Popical Island folk have already announced their first quarter releases. You can look forward to newies from established PI outfits like Ginnels, plus new recruits Me And My Dog from Mayo and Oh Boland from Galway, plus many more….
First up will be the 12” vinyl release of Leafy Stiletto, the debut solo offering from Grand Pocket Orchestra’s Paddy Hanna, with US label Already Dead taking care of the cassette version of the title.
The collective will then team up with Limerick’s Out On A Limb for a split 12” by Choice Prize-nominated Windings and PI’s own Land Lovers. Lots to look for to!
Following hugely successful debut single ‘The Sun Is Gonna Shine’, Ger Eaton-fronted troupe The Carnival Brothers have unveiled follow-up track ‘Carnival Station’. And what a gem it is! Check it out on iTunes…
Brothers Binzer Brennan and Gavin Fox have been busy juggling rhythm section duties as they also play with Nathan Connolly’s Little Matador. The outfit support QOTSA on their upcoming Belfast date and have a show in Dublin’s Academy on November 20, which is not to be missed!
Also gearing up for an Academy 2 turn are Waterford’s Propeller Palms, who play the venue on November 22. The gig follows a very successful summer festival season, which saw them wow crowds at Groove Music Festival, Electric Picnic and the Day Tripper Festival. They also shared stages with Imelda May, Alabama 3, Jack L and Jerry Fish.
It’s been a busy year for the group who followed 2012’s All In This Together album with the Rise And Shine EP and are preparing for the release of new single ‘Look My Way’.
Buffalo Sunn (formerly Sweet Jane) have just unleashed the first offering under their new moniker, single ‘Seven Seas’. The track is quite the sonic departure for the band, which reflects recent line-up changes and augurs very well for future releases. Catch them supporting The Blades in the Olympia Theatre on December 13 and 14….
Galway’s Dott have confirmed December 3 as the street date for hotly-anticipated debut confection Swoon and have announced a batch of dates in support (check hotpress.com for details).
The long-player is their second release on US label Graveface Records after the re-issue of the Button EP on 7” vinyl in April of this year.
It’ll be available on download from iTunes and Bandcamp and physically from selected record stores including Tower, RAGE and Elastic Witch in Dublin, Plugd in Cork and Galway’s Bell Book & Candle.
The garage rockers have only been together since January 2012 but have already notched up appearances at Electric Picnic, HWCH, Camden Crawl Dublin and Indiependence and recently made their US debut at New York’s Cake Shop.
We can’t wait for the long-player!
