All Rise: The Kells Courthouse Sessions was filmed in association with Meath Arts Office and Sofft Productions, as part of the Llps scheme.
The final episode of All Rise: The Kells Courthouse Sessions will premiere on the Hot Press YouTube channel this evening, at 8pm.
Tonight’s edition includes performances from self-taught musician Gerry Tully; Meath Hip Hop duo Paper Clap Sound with Blaithín O’Connor; bluegrass and folk influenced band Pilgrim St.; jazz swing band Bobby MC & The Dukes – plus singer-songwriter Kyle Riley. Award-winning playwright and elected member of Aosdána Deirdre Kinahan will once again take the reins as host for the series.
The goal of All Rise is for music with rural roots to claim sanctuary in Kells Courthouse, which was built in 1801. Designed by Irish architect Francis Johnston – who also designed the GPO, Nelson’s Pillar, Townley Hall and the East Gate entrance to Slane Castle – the downstairs was used as a courthouse where Quarter Sessions were held for the county, while the front of the Courthouse features a 10th-century cross.
Episode 1 featured stunning displays from Bothy Band member Paddy Keenan, singer-songwriter Robert John Ardiff, Navan guitar virtuoso Jimmy Smith and many more.
Episode 2 was also a star-studded affair with performances from dark-pop purveyor Atelica, Sidewinder Keyboardist Tommy Keyes, fusion group IF and singer-songwriter and producer JJ Bloom AKA Conor McQuaid.
