12 actors have been placed on the list for 'British Independent Film Awards'
Kneecap stars JJ Ó Dochartaigh, Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh and Naoise Ó Cairealláin have been announced on the long-list for the 'British Independent Film Award' (BIFA) breakthrough performance prize.
The award is sponsored by Netflix, and 12 actors have been spotlighted on the list this year based on their performance in British films. Previous winners include the likes of Ben Whishaw, Jamie Bell, Dev Patel and Jessie Buckley.
The Kneecap film follows the narrative of the actual band and it's members who play themselves in the film. The movie has also been selected as Ireland’s Oscar entry for Best International Film, and has surpassed €1 million in the box office.
In an interview with Hot Press Móglaí Bap said of the film,“Our film’s massively inspired by Trainspotting – only with less heroin – so Irvine Welsh saying on social media, and in a subsequent interview, that he loves it has been a massive confidence booster.”
In response to the nomination Naoise says on social media, "I feared this day would come, The Brits are trying to claim us now" referring to the award nomination for a British prize.
