Willy Mason is set to grace The Grand Social stage on the 3rd of May next year.
American singer-songwriter Willy Mason will make his return to Dublin next year, with a headline show at Dublin's Grand Social.
With a distinctively introspective lyrical approach, Mason's work is often out of time, sonically articulating the innate humanness of now and our steps towards collective transcendence. The son of folk singers Jemima James and Michael Mason, songwriting of the poetic tradition appears to be in Mason's blood, having released four studio albums to date. With an indie-inflected sound that echoes the style of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, whilst simultaneously drawing from the grit and cynicism of punk, Mason's songs are an immediately recognisable, yet remarkably distinct fusion of sonic excellence.
Landing on the indie scene at only 19 years old, Mason's popularity rose after Sean Foley, a friend and peer of Conor Oberst, discovered his music on a local Martha's Vineyard radio broadcast. Oberst later signed Mason to his new record label, Team Love Records and in the summer of 2004, Mason and his brother Sam traveled to Old Soul Studios in New York to record Where the Humans Eat. Alongside a host of EP releases, Mason released his sophomore record If the Ocean Gets Rough in 2007, and his third offering Carry On five years later.

The musician's most recent effort, 2021's Already Dead, garnered widespread critical praise, with Will Russell of Hot Press saying of the record: "this is a hugely compelling record that deserves repeated listening."
Having played Dublin plenty of times before, including a date at Whelans in 2021, today, Mason's shows are a remarkable display of passion, conviction and artistry. Willy Mason's show is not one to be missed...
Willy Mason will play The Grand Social on the 3rd of May 2024, with tickets available via Singular Artists from Friday 17th November at 10am.
