The up and coming singer/songwriter recently singed with Sufjan Stevens' label.
Angelo De Augsutine, a soulful artist from the US who you need to make yourself aware of, will be playing the Grand Social on November 11.
De Augustine is connoisseur of achingly beautiful, acoustic ambiance. His songs carry the soft-spoken emotional weight of Elliot Smith and the refreshingly simple, DIY ethos of lo-fi acts like The Microphones.
The best vote of confidence he's arguably gotten is from the supreme Sufjan Stevens, who signed the 24-year old to his label Asthmatic Kitty not too long ago. Stevens has also directed a video for one of his best songs "Crazy Stoned & Gone". De Augustine's debut album with the label is titled Swim Inside the Moon and will be released August 25.
In order to get the sound just right for the record, the young guitarist recorded much of the album in his own home....in his bathtub. Listening to the songs now, it's obvious that there was method to the madness as he certainly got the atmosphere he was aiming for.
