The Green Road among the novels in the running for the prestigious award
Anne Enright, the Laureate for Irish Fiction, is among the authors on the long list for this year's Man Booker Prize.
The Dublin-born writer, who claimed the 2007 award for The Gathering, is once again in the running for her novel The Green Road. 13 authors are currently still in the hunt, before the short list of six is confirmed in September.
Others on the long list include Jamaican Marlon James, the first writer from the island to be nominated. His A Brief History of Seven Killings tells the story of an attempted killing of Bob Marley.
There are five American authors on the list - the largest national contingent - in this, the second year where any work of fiction written in the English language is eligible for the prize.
Michael Wood, chair of the judging panel, said: “We had a great time choosing this list. Discussions weren’t always peaceful, but they were always very friendly. We were lucky in our companions and the submissions were extraordinary. The longlist could have been twice as long, but we’re more than happy with our final choice."
The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on October 13.
