The sixth annual National Album Day, presented in association with Bowers & Wilkins and BBC Sounds, will take place next month on October 14. This year’s 1990s theme means special reissues of the golden albums that defined the decade.
Blur, R.E.M., Garbage, The Cranberries, Idlewild, Fatboy Slim, Bob Dylan, Wu-Tang Clan, and Jeff Buckley are just a few of the long list of decade-defining artists whose albums are to be reissued for this year’s National Album Day. First started in 2018, this year marks the event’s sixth annual edition and will take place on Saturday, October 14.
This year’s theme is ‘90s, aimed to bring retrospective attention to the impactful and diverse range of musical voices of a decade the split the industry into tiny, glorious pieces. Special reissues of albums for National Album Day have been announced (see the full list below). Other artists to re-grace us with their sound include Dannii Minogue, S Club, Dinosaur Jr. and Jeff Buckley.
This year’s National Album Day ambassadors are industry icon Gabrielle, young UK artist Declan McKenna, Tricky and Nuno Bettencourt. Last year’s ambassadors were none other than Sam Ryder of Eurovision and the imitable Franz Ferdinand.
National Album Day is presented in association with official audio partner Bowers & Wilkins and official broadcast partner BBC Sounds. The week leading up to the event on October 14 can be expected to offer an array of music-related activities including listening parties like Classic Album Sundays, Pitchblack Playback, The Record Club, Tape Notes and Tim’s Listening Party.
Keep an eye out for announcements regarding live performances, in-store artist appearances, street art exhibitions and more.

With this year’s special ‘90s theme, it will shine a retrospective light on the colourful texture of an adventurous decade in music which skipped from dance and house to R&B and rap, from reggae to grunge and punk rock.
