The 42 year old television presenter had admitted to driving while more than twice the legal alcohol limit in West London on March 18th this year
In his statement to police the court heard McPartlin said "I am very sorry I did this. I am ashamed and mortified that this happened...I accept full culpability for this and wish to apologise to all those concerned." The 42 year old pleaded guilty to drink-driving after his black Mini collided with two other cars in Richmond, west London. Nobody was seriously injured however a child passenger from one of the other cars was taken to hospital to be checked as a precaution.
The charge stated he had 75 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, meaning he was twice over the limit. After he was charged, ITV announced the Saturday Night Takeaway host would step back from his TV commitments, with co-presenter of almost 30 years Declan Donnelley hosting the final two episodes of the show on his own.
It was mentioned in court that it is understood he is battling with alcohol issues following the collapse of his marriage to childhood partner Lisa Armstrong.
