Apache Tribe Belfast
The Apache Tribe label is an offshoot of a Belfast clothes shop that prides itself on being much more than just a store - a hybrid of modern culture showcasing the previously hidden talents of local DJs and first-time producers from as far afield as South Africa.

The rather arrogantly titled 'Sound of Belfast' from Kato kicks open the show with walls of scratchin' before breaking down into delicious soulful chimes from Bangor posse Desiato. The standard nose-dives, however, on Swithh's 'Ska Boys' and Olympic Lifts' bland Beastie Boys pastiche doesn't help the cause much either.
However, other acts do live up to their blurb. Solaris, Basic, Graeme L and Cappo Regime deserve extra special attention for their individualistic efforts. Paul Hamill provides some trancey techno on 'Bliss', while it's left to Graeme L to close the proceedings with 'Taka' - by far the strongest track on offer here.
A mixed bag, worthy of investigation.
