The first step in the rekindling of their friendship took place over a recent lunch, according to Art Garfunkel.
In a recent interview, Art Garfunkel spoke about a lunch with Paul Simon, stating that it was the first time they had “been together in many years”.
The American folk rock duo, known as Simon & Garfunkel, released several best-selling albums throughout the 60s, with songs including ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, ‘Mrs. Robinson’, and ‘The Sound of Silence’, amongst many others.
The duo split in 1970 following artistic differences, and haven’t created any new music together since.
Garfunkel shared that he asked Simon why they hadn’t seen each other for so long, and his former musical partner revealed that he had been hurt by comments Garfunkel made during an old interview.
The duo have had somewhat of a fractured professional relationship down the years, with Garfunkel going on record to label Simon an "idiot" and a "jerk" during a 2015 interview with The Telegraph.

In a more recent interview with The Sunday Times, Garfunkel recollected: “I cried when he told me how much I had hurt him. Looking back, I guess I wanted to shake up the nice guy image of Simon & Garfunkel. Y’know what? I was a fool!”
However, their recent reunion was such a success that Garfunkel revealed the duo have plans to meet again.
He said: “For me, it was about wanting to make amends before it’s too late. It felt like we were back in a wonderful place. As I think about it now, tears are rolling down my cheeks. I can still feel his hug.”
Simon & Garfunkel last performed together in 2010 when they took part in AFI’s tribute to The Graduate director Mike Nichols. Mike helped the pair reach superstardom by playing their music in the 1967 classic.
