"Creatively, it came from a place I had never really drawn from before."
Cork artist Arthur Valentine returns to drop his first track of the year, the summer banger '405.'
Mixed by Nathan Burgess and with additional vocals from Alex Gough and Grace Wood, it's a track inspired by Valentine's carefree time living in Vancouver, Canada. It also follows his 2022 hit single 'Focus,'
Valentine has been making waves since his sold-out Dublin debut. Breaking out onto the music scene back in 2019 with the single 'Selfish,' the R&B artist has been making a name for himself, releasing his first EP Splitscreen and touring Ireland, making appearances at events like Galway's 3 City Stages and Dublin's the Workman's Club.
Speaking on the song that's "only ever been performed with sunglasses on," Arthur notes that the lyrics are reflective of the lifestyle he lived while in Canada: minimalist, bare-bones, but untroubled.

"It reminisces on the times spent skating around the city or to Kitsilano beach to spend all day doing nothing in bliss," Arthur recalls. "The track itself was written at a time where I felt an awful lot of pressure and weight from external sources, as if I was being crushed by the weight of the world. Making '405' acted as a way to escape that pressure and contextualise things a bit. I mean, it’s hard not to feel more upbeat when those drums kick in."
Actualacid and Automatic Blue also worked on the track, acting as key members of the song's production team.
"405 is unlike any song I’ve ever released before," Arthur exclaims. "I feel like, creatively, it came from a place I had never really drawn from before. Making this track was honestly one of the most joyful recording experiences I’ve ever had and I think that comes through in the track.”
