On Bank Holiday Monday 31st October, Today FM will be going back in time and giving listeners another chance to hear the IMRO award winning documentary ‘1977: The Year Irish Music Was Reborn’. The one hour documentary which was created by Cathal Funge tells a story of Irish rock from indie hopefuls to global stars.
Originally aired in May 2017 the documentary shines a light on 1977 which was a year of new beginnings. Spurred on by the DIY attitude of punk, a quiet revolution was taking place.

Where once the showbands ruled, a new generation demanded more and they started to create new ways of doing things.

It was the birth of a modern music scene in Ireland with The Radiators from Space entering the charts, The Boomtown Rats appearing on Top Of The Pops, Ireland's first rock festival at Macroom, Thin Lizzy headlining Dublin's first outdoor rock gig, not to mention The Clash playing Trinity College and the launch of Hot Press.

To celebrate this and the incredible movement in Irish music over the years the documentary will air on Today FM from 8PM-9PM on Bank Holiday Monday and will be followed by three hours of the best Irish music spanning over four decades featuring everything from Ash to Aslan, All Tvvins to A-House, Something Happens to The Sultans of Ping, as well as Bell X1, Two Door Cinema Club, The Frames, My Bloody Valentine, Mundy, Hozier, James Vincent McMorrow, Cathy Davey, Villagers, Jape, The Thrills, Sinead O’Connor, Delorentos, and so many more great artists.
