The Olympia Theatre, Dublin
This is Band Of Horses’ tenth performances in as many nights. You can scarcely tell, though, as they rip into hits such as ‘Great Salt Lake’ and ‘Is There A Ghost?’ with unbridled joy.
There are some quieter moments, such as the understated ‘Blue Beard’ and ‘The Funeral’. The latter, in particular, brings a momentary silence to the heaving crowd as Bridwell croons the spine-tingling opening line “I’m coming up only to hold your hand.”
Guitarist Tyler Ramsey’s icy riff shimmers around the venue, before the rest of the band come in and pound their way to an epic finish.
Band Of Horses aren’t done, however. All eyes are on stage as the lights dim for the encore. Then Bridwell and Ramsey surprise everybody, appearing in one of the boxes overlooking the stage. Everybody jostles for position, as the duo play stripped down acoustic versions of ‘Evening Kitchen’ and ‘No One’s Gonna Love You’. Every single word is sung back. It’s one of those goosebump moments, the highlight of an amazing night.
