Róisín Ní Haicéid and Anna Heisterkamp combine forces in the simple yet moving darkened visuals.
Indie outfit banríon has released a brand new video for recent EP single 'sugar water', co-directed by long-time collaborator Anna Heisterkamp (who has worked with Anna Mieke).
The rising indie quartet sound more hypnotic than ever on the beautiful sophomore EP final track, featuring Róisín Ní Haicéid's textured, layered vocals finding the beauty in home. Teaming up with Heisterkamp for the video clip, Róisín can be seen moving around a boxing ring, filmed at Arbour Hill Boxing Club, before Anna joins her. Heisterkamp's work is known for exploring movement in all its cinematic grace, and the way bodies can tell narratives.
Sophie O'Donovan acted as cinematographer for the shoot, which also featured the talent of producer Kate Gurren and gaffer Vanessa Nunan.
Darkened lighting flickering between Ní Haicéid's spotlit face and glowing body creates a stunning contrast and the words pierce the listener.
"There's sugar in the water / Here I was thinking / It would never get better / My hand pulled closer / Save the feeling / Of being under," Roisin Ni Haicéid sings on the dare to crush EP track, which originally landed on February 1st.

The EP tracks were written by Róisín throughout 2021 and 2022, tracing romance, heartbreak, sickness and the housing crisis. It was recorded last summer in Meadow Lodge Studios with Rian Trench and they've since been working with Chris Barry and Morgan Beausang to mix and master the tracks.
Banríon performed a headline Irish tour of Galway, Cork, Limerick and Dublin in February and March this year, earning reviews brimming with praise.
