Jess Kavanagh's larger than life vocals never cease to amaze
The more one hears the amazing voice of Barq's lead singer Jess Kavanagh, the more one becomes convinced that she has one of the best voices around today. Ever since Barq's epic headliner in Whelans, Hot Press has been an avid admirer of the exciting young band. Therefore, it would have been remiss, if not rude to not catch them at EP.
If you need a dose of badass music, look no further than BARQ. 'That Thing You Love' and 'Gentle Kind of Lies' set up the macabre alt-rock vibe with their synth heavy, oddly discordant tonal structure and snapping rap.
The band have never shied away from the darker side of love and psychology in their music, and new song 'Earthquakes' continued this exploration with its jarring clash of major and minor, descending scales, mashing percussion crescendos and that delicious vibrato of Kavanagh.

With a voice as velvet as the furnishings of the Jerry Fish stage, Kavanagh was a mesmerising diva of Beyonce proportions carrying the audience on a journey of psychological disorder.
As always, it was a dark and wonderfully disorientating journey, but a journey we cannot wait to go on again.
