It’s hard to resist the peculiar product of Hayden Thorpe’s voice box at the best of times, but when the Wild Beasts co-frontman leaps from counter-tenor yelps to basement growls in a heartbeat, it’s damn near impossible. This is precisely what you get on ‘Bed Of Nails’, the new single from the band’s gorgeous third album Smother, along with some seriously gut-wrenching lyrics (“I want my lips to blister when we kiss”). Starring atmospheric beats and eerie background rumbles, ‘Bed Of Nails’ is a lot spacier than their other material, but no less thrilling.
