One of the country's most compelling live outfits, Belfast duo Martin Corrigan (ex-Alloy Mental) and Nick Todd, AKA SKYMAS, are an act that aim straight for the sonic jugular.
With their aim to create tracks that “can channel the fundamental, super physical energy from beyond our everyday world” their new single ‘BubbleDub bears the unmistakable hallmarks of their propulsive electro-rock craft to date: pounding rhythmic glory, powerful electro textures and brazen lyrical gusto.
It's also a track which owes much to the duo's musical and philosophical influences, where the likes of Fela Kuti, Steve Albini and John Lydon rub shoulders comfortably with David Bohm, Robert Anton Wilson and Alan Watts. There's a notable hint of early LCD Soundsystem in there too, with 'BubbleDub' rivalling some of the best track's that the seminal American band's debut album had to offer.
Corrigan and Todd’s fervent blend of techno, noise rock, reggae, punk and new wave has resulted in a partnership that is equal parts totally singular and instantly captivating. Featuring guitar from Stephen Leacock (Franklyn /ex-General Fiasco), the track's maxim of “solution in destruction” revels beautifully in modern-day contradictions and anxieties.
