Belfast Ska
Unoriginal ska with an original attitude
The words “Belfast Ska” fills me with foreboding and dread. I‘m worried I’ll hear either some cod rastafarian nonsense or else some English-accented waffle unceremoniously transplanted from the streets of a big English city. Instead I heard brass-infused pop-punk music, slightly reminiscent of Rocket from the Crypt, and all perfectly attuned to a Belfast twang. Overall, it’s not hugely original musically – but it’s expertly performed and transcends its limitations.
