Raglans have been touring all around promoting their new EP Again and Again, and after playing an unreal set for their Christmas party at the Grand Social, Stephen Kelly gave Hot Press his official list of favourites for 2016. His good friends from the band Fangclub were also there, but we're pretty sure he would have picked their song for his single of the year even if they weren't in the room anyway.
Favourite single of the year?
Stephen: (talking to Fangclub) You’ve got a lot that’ve been my favourites this year, but what’s the one that goes (singing) Bonafideeeee, what’s that called? “Loner,” yeah, favourite track of the year, definitely “Loner,” by Fangclub. I didn’t know Fangclub a year ago, but now they’re our friends, and we play together all the time. And hopefully we will continue to do so.
Fangclub, "Loner"
Favourite album of the year?
Favourite album of the year, Weezer’s new album. I never expected it, it was like, okay, imagine if The Simpsons got good again. Which it never will, but Weezer got good again. So that’s pretty awesome.
Weezer, "Thank God for Girls"
Favourite gig you went to? One you played?
The best gig we played was definitely Rockavaria at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, the big festival. They had Iggy Pop headlining, it was just a great experience.
The best one that I went to might be Jamie T in the Olympia. He hadn’t played in Ireland in like six or seven years, so there was a great atmosphere in the room, like there is when people are waiting to see something. And I was one of the people waiting to see him. It was fantastic, totally worth it. It felt really good to check him off the list of gigs I needed to see.

Favourite tv show?
Tv shows, The Leftovers, I don’t think it came out this year, but the second season was one of the best seasons of television I’ve ever watched.

Favourite film?
Film of the year…. bad year for movies, in my opinion. I’m going to go with, oh no, Ex Machina wasn’t this year, was it? That was a dope film. I’m trying to think of other Domhnall Gleeson films, cause he picks ‘em pretty well. Oh, I got one. Domhnall wasn’t in it, but still. Love and Mercy, the Brian Wilson biopic. Everybody Wants Some is amazing as well, if you haven’t seen it. It’s like the sequel to Dazed and Confused.

Favourite book?
Currently reading Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, the autobiography. And that’s fantastic. Other than that, I read Why Nations Fall, and that one’s really informative, it’s great.
