Emerging to rapturous applause in a heaving O2, Beyoncé gets straight to business. Though it’s less than a year since she last visited these shores, the all-singing, all-gyrating singer has a new, self-titled album, much of which receives a live airing.
There are several outfit changes, during which we’re subjected to a succession of cheesy, perfume ad-style videos. The result is a somewhat disjointed show.
Flanked by an all-female band (she stresses this several times) and kicking off with ‘Run The World (Girls)’, Beyoncé – or Mrs Carter, as she prefers on this tour – continues to confuse your reporter. Given her often-espoused feminist principles, it’s jarring to watch Beyoncé writhing on a chair doing ‘Partition’ (gentlemen may disagree). Happy International Women’s Day, y’all.

Sexual politics aside, there’s no denying the woman’s a star. Her voice is goose-pimply good, her dance moves flawless. In all, it’s a highly entertaining show that clearly delights – and possibly empowers, who can tell? – her adoring young fans.
