Sixteen songs in and a rather sweaty and bare-chested (well it is Biffy!) Simon Neill emerges armed with his acoustic guitar...
With the entire arena in silent expectation he delivers the heartfelt opening line of ‘Machines’. As the crowd sing back ‘I would dig a thousand more if I needed to’ any remaining doubts about the group’s stadium status are laid to rest.
It’s already been one hell of a performance. Biffy treat fans to plenty of new material. Opener ‘Different People’, ‘Biblical’ and highlight ‘Black Chandelier’ all go down a treat while 2002s ‘Justboy’ and the raucous ‘There’s No Such Thing As A Jaggy Snake’ keep die-hards happy.
Biffy, it turns out, are just getting started.
“Oh my God, I’m actually going to fucking cry,” screams the super-fan next to me as the opening chords of ‘Many Of Horror’ fill the arena. I look around halfway through and indeed she is... bless!
Encore opener ‘Skylight’ features an incredible solo from Duracell bunny drummer Ben Johnston. A shattered looking Neill then declares, “Nothing beats a night in Dublin” before they unleash the epic ‘Mountains’ and kick-off the Easter weekend in style.
