'Century' comes ahead of the band's third record 'U.F.O.F.' which is out on May 3 on 4AD Records.
American rock and folk quartet Big Thief have returned with another new single, the third from their new album U.F.O.F. ‘Century’ sees the group continue down the low key, meditative path they’ve carved out with the first two offerings, creating an engrossing acoustic atmosphere for songwriter Adrianne Lenker’s gorgeous songwriting to shine through.
Lenker’s songs typically deal in old friends, forgotten places, and hidden emotion. Many of Big Theif’s most well-known songs are, in fact, named after various people from Lenker’s past lives. Whether it’s the jazzy melancholy of ‘Paul’ to the all surrounding folk guitar of ‘Haley’ or the cathartic balladry of ‘Mary,’ memories of the doomed figure heavily in the Big Thief catalogue. Century is no different, creating a muted vignette, more a scene than a story. Two people alone together, unsure of their future, but eager to live in each other’s present.

The single comes ahead of their third album’s release on May 3rd. The recording of that record, says Lenker, was marked by a newfound chemistry, with the band’s four members coalescing now in full for the first time since solidifying their lineup back in 2016.
