Unproven death rumours about the rap icon were doing the rounds this week.
Biz Markie’s management have confirmed that the hip-hop artist is still alive after rumours about his death circulated on social media on Thursday, July 1st.
The New York rapper is still alive and under medical care, confirmed his manager Jenni Izumi. “The news of Biz Markie’s passing is not true,” she said. Izumi added that the 57-year-old is “under medical care, surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best health care possible.”
“Biz’s wife and family are touched by the outpouring of love and admiration from his friends, peers and fans alike. At this time, we ask for your continued thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” said Izumi.
The death rumours surrounding Biz Markie follow a number of worrying developments in the rapper’s health. The rapper reportedly spent several weeks in hospital in July last year due to complications with his type 2 diabetes.
In December 2020, Biz Markie suffered a stroke while he was hospitalised due to more complications with his diabetes. The rapper, “not doing great, but it’s not as scandalous as it felt in the beginning,” as reported by HipHopDX.

Big Daddy Kane, a fellow Juice Crew member, told The Breakfast Club in April that Biz Markie’s health was improving.
“He’s getting better and stronger every day. Last time I talked to him on the phone, he got a real light voice, but last time I talked on the phone he stuck his middle finger up at me so I think he’s coming along,” said Kane.
