Irish hard dance maestro Black Traffic shares why EP is his dream festival, his passion for Calvin Harris and what fans can expect from his dynamic set.
Electric Picnic is something you never really expect to happen as an Irish artist in any genre, so that’s special. This will be my first time going, and I’m playing at it. It’s my debut as a festival goer and as a DJ, which is crazy. I’d love to play somewhere like Awakenings in the Netherlands, but EP was always my dream festival.
I was meant to see Fred Again last year, but had to cancel because I was gigging in Scotland. My brother saw him and said it was magic, so hopefully I’ll get to see him another time. If I see Calvin Harris backstage, I’ll have to go over and try talk to him – it would be surreal to meet him. If not, that’s who I’ll try and see live.
I’m going to be trying to make It as memorable as possible for myself and the crowd, so that kinda has me relaxed, knowing that I’m putting a lot of work into it. I do feel a lot of pressure, but I think that shows I care. I know as soon as I come off stage, I’m just going to want to run back on again, so I’m excited for it more than anything. Irish crowds are generally the best. With the following we have now as well, we’re lucky that when we play in Mallorca or Ibiza, there’s a lot of Irish there. But everywhere we go it’s that younger crowd, and they’re all really up for it. I’m coming away from every festival now thinking, ‘Jesus, that was the best one yet.’
