Impressive debut from Kilkenny rockers
They’ve earned their stripes tirelessly pounding the live circuit supporting the likes of Snow Patrol, Republic Of Loose and The Frank And Walters as well as headlining their own gigs. Now this Kilkenny four-piece unleash their much-anticipated debut, which proves to be a hugely impressive collection. The opening title-track is a terrific rocker; think a blend of Ash, Therapy? and Radiohead in their early prime. ‘Papercuts’ is another gem with some neat harmonies, while the recent single ‘Little Secrets’ boasts an Edge-like opening riff (circa Achtung Baby), in addition to showcasing vocalist Stevie Cullen’s razor-sharp voice. ‘Pills’ is yet another highlight, with the interplay between the guitar and drums hugely impressive. Myp et Jeep clearly spend a lot of time in the rehearsal room!
Elsewhere, ‘Enough Is Enough’ has an almost Buzzcocks feel about it – all nervous energy and an irresistible melody; ‘Beware Of Sound’ sports a retro Jimmy Page-style riff; and catchy mid-tempo rocker ‘Excuses’ is a potential hit single. They bring it down a notch or two on the slow-burning, mournful closer ‘Plan B’, but for the most part this rocks like few other homegrown albums in the recent past.
