Following her lauded performance on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny on New Years Eve, Muireann Bradley will perform at 8pm on Saturday 13th April 2024 in Whelan’s Upstairs.
Fresh from her appearance on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny held annually on New Year’s Eve, rising blues-folk artist Muireann Bradley will perform Upstairs at Whelan's on Saturday 13th April, presented by Foggy Notions.
Muireann Bradley is a 17 year old finger-picking guitarist and singer from County Donegal. Following her performance on Jools’ Annual Hootenanny, Bradley’s LP I kept these old blues, released in December 2023, entered the the top ten of the UK Albums Download Chart. The album was lauded by The Irish Times as an “impressive and hugely promising” body of work, praising Bradley’s “serious talent and application.”
The singer performs Country Blues and Ragtime Blues from the 1920s and 30s, as well as Folk, Roots and Americana. She grew up with her father listening to old Blues records and playing and singing the music himself. Inspired by her father’s music preferences, Bradley began practising the guitar at nine years old.
During COVID lockdowns, she began posting cover videos on YouTube, the first of which was her rendition of Blind Blake’s “Police Dog Blues” which received considerable attention with 80,000 views to date. She was contacted by Josh Rosenthal of Tompkins Square Records who suggested she record an album, which was released last month entitled I kept these old blues.
