Bob Dylan has announced the release of a new live album The Complete Budokan, out 17 November via Columbia records and Legacy recordings.
In 1978, Dylan started his world tour with 3 at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan, returning to the venue after three nights in Osaka to play a five more shows and record the original live album, Bob Dylan at Budokan.
The revisited edition features all the songs Dylan played across two nights ( 28 February and 1 March) at the Tokyo venue.
All the cuts on the album have been restored, remixed and remastered. “We mixed the record with the keyword ‘passion’ in mind,” said chief engineer Tom Suzuki. “The result is a mix that surpasses the original 1978 release, providing a crisper and clearer sound where each instrument and Bob Dylan’s voice are distinctly audible.”

The original Bob Dylan at Budokan was released shortly after 1978’s Street-legal. The live record sold and charted well but was not particularly well received by critics at the time.
Legendary critic Robert Chritsgau wrote, “I believe this double LP was made available so our hero could boast of being outclassed by Cheap Trick had the self-control to release but a single disc from this location” ( Cheap Trick released a similar live album from the same location shorty after Dylan).
