The 431-track, 27-disc collection captures Dylan’s mid-1970s arena tour with The Band.
Bob Dylan has announced a startling 27-CD box set documenting his historic return to touring in 1974.
The 1974 Live Recordings comprises a whopping 431 tracks, 417 previously unreleased, from Dylan’s 1974 tour with The Band. It marked the first extended run since his 1966 tour, where he took the battle to "go electric" that initially started at 1965 Newport Folk Festival. During the summer of '66, Dylan took the hiatus from live circuits following a motorcycle accident in Woodstock which rendered him unable to tour.
With 133 newly-mixed recordings, the set also features liner notes from journalist and critic Elizabeth Nelson. See here for the full tracklisting.
In addition to the CD box set, Third Man Records has announced the September release of The 1974 Live Recordings - The Missing Songs From Before the Flood, a 3-LP / 1 x 7-inch set culled from the same recordings. The set is pressed exclusively on coloured vinyl, and will be available through the Vault, Third Man’s direct-to-customer mail order service.
Dylan has also unveiled a preview for the box set with a previously-unreleased performance of ‘Forever Young,’ live in Seattle, 9th Feb, 1974, which you can check out below.
