Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash join forces on the first recording of 'Wanted Man'.
Preceding the release of The Bootleg Series Vol. 15, a demo version of the Bob Dylan-penned 'Wanted Man' featuring Johnny Cash was unveiled today. The never-before-heard audio stems from Dylan's 1969 Nashville recordings with the country legend.
The demo showcases early stages of the song's recording process as Cash can be heard mixing up words and laughing throughout the song. The recording also comes with well-intentioned advice by June Carter: "Honey, I don't want to interrupt your train of thought, but be sure that Bob puts the melody to that song, that 'Wanted Man'... you forgot the melody."

'Wanted Man' would later become the opener of Cash's live album At San Quentin which was recorded only a week after he learned to play the song.
The 15th edition of Dylan's Bootleg Series primarily focuses on his country recordings in the late sixties. Most of them include Cash as well as Carl Perkins who also plays the guitar on 'Wanted Man'. The Bootleg Series Vol. 15: Travelin' Thru, 1967-1969 will be released on November 1.
The previous installment, More Blood, More Tracks, has been described by Pat Carty as an "intimate experience" and an "essential companion" to the original album, Blood On The Tracks. Read the full review here.
