Bonny Light Horseman have announced their upcoming double album with the release of brand new single ‘I Know You Know.’
Bonny Light Horseman, the acclaimed trio of Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson and Josh Kaufman, have announced their upcoming double album and Jagjaguwar debut Keep Me on Your Mind / See You Free, out June 7.
The news comes paired with the album’s first advance release ‘I Know You Know’ alongside the group’s first ever music video. With a breezy arrangement and anthemic chorus, the band expertly weave together emotional devastation and feel-good pop melodies, tied together with the entrancing harmonies of Mitchell and Johnson.
“When thinking about directors for Bonny Light Horseman’s first ever music video, Kimberly Stuckwisch leapt to mind immediately,” said Johnson. “I’d been a longtime fan of her always evocative work and for our band I felt like she’d ‘get it.’
“The treatment she came back with was deeply aligned with the sentiments of the song: life’s multiverse, the dualities of joy and pain, the choices we make that chart our course towards one way or another,” he added. “We shot this on a salt flat in the Mojave desert, trying to outrun the sunset and packs of salty coyotes, under the watch of some wayward desert pelicans.”

Produced by Kaufman and mixed by D. James Goodwin, Keep Me on Your Mind / See You Free is an ode to the messiness of humanity and the unvarnished emotions that come with it. Centred around themes of love, loss, hope, sorrow, community, change and time, the forthcoming release is set to be Bonny Light Horseman’s most vulnerable offering yet.
The band’s third album, Keep Me on Your Mind / See You Free was written over the span of five months in 2023, beginning when the trio gathered at the century-old pub Levis Corner House in Ballydehob. With a palpable sense of community forged over many decades alongside an age-old upright piano that would come to embody the album’s many motifs, the pub became the band’s first recording location for the new project.
After two days of work, the group had trekked nearly half of the double LP’s 18 songs at Levi’s, returning to their creative home of Dreamland Recording Studios in upstate New York to complete the sessions. The final product is a robust album that serves as a reminder that life is most lived when it's not perfect.
