The new single also coincides with the group's 2024 North America Tour announcement.
Bonny Light Horseman - a trio of Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson and Josh Kaufman - have signed to Jagjaguwar and today released their debut single for the label, the cathartic and resonant 'When I Was Younger'.
The group's debut single for the label was produced and recorded at Levis Corner House in Ballydehob, Co.Cork.
The band visited Cork city last year as part of their performance with the RTÉ concert Orchestra as part of the Sounds From a Safe Harbour line-up, a festival curated by The National's Aaron Dessner.
'When I Was Younger' by the folk trio as part of their 2023 visit to the revel county last September.
The new single is a nostalgia fuelled, reflective track- sentimental but not overly morose.
The track deals with themes of motherhood and maturity. The band says: "There’s a whole genre of trad songs with this ‘domestic frustration’ sentiment, like ‘Single Girl Married Girl,’ ‘Wish I Was A Single Girl Again,’ etc. This song is inspired by those, but we wanted to write it as a duet, to tell two sides of a story,”

Continuing the group shares: “We recorded it live, so you can hear coughing, cars, and the whole audience did that wordless wail with us in the middle. It felt like a primal collective shake-off. 'When I Was Younger' also is accompanied by a lyric video, which features footage from the bands performance at the iconic Ballydehob bar.
The band also announced a headlining U.S. tour, including two nights at NYC’s Music Hall of Williamsburg, as well as summer festival performances at Bonnaroo Music & Arts, Red Wing Roots, and more.
